The 1939 in British Tan is part of Wescos 100th anniversary collection and one of the most interesting boots weve had come through our doors recently. 1939 was the first year that Wesco produced their iconic Boss engineer boot, and it was immediately in high demand for use by welders at the Port of Portland, Oregon. The pull-one style meant it both kept sparks out, and was easy to kick off if sparks did get down the shaft. The construction is the most notable element here. These are built with a full naildown construction which was used by Wesco in the early 1900s. In Wescos standard stitch down construction the vamp and counter flare out and are stitched to the midsole and the outsole; in naildown, the vamp and counter are wrapped under the insole, and nailed down all the way around the boot. The midsole is then nailed to this stack of leather, and finally, the outsole is attached with a single row on a Rapid E machine. This produces a sleeker boot with a vintage look that can still be re-soled and re-built like all Wesco boots. The trimmings are all in keeping with the vintage construction, with Wescos original 1930s style stitching including the 3-row vamp stitch and backstay. Original vintage, deadstock Nailed Sole labels are sewn on the outside of the shafts, retrieved from Wescos archives specifically for these boots. Each box includes a leather Wesco pouch with a dust cloth and cleaner/conditioner for your boots; each boot ships in its own 100th Anniversary flannel dust bag. Get them now before they are gone, We only have a couple in each size. We are a family owned small business. We stock high quality hard to find items for our customers. These are never on sale. We ask a very fair price. In stock with no wait. For 97 years, four generations of the Shoemaker family have invested blood, sweat, and tears into a business which is both legacy and legend. From our early days in the timber camps, measuring loggers’ feet for boots, to entering the 21st century with the ultimate customer convenience of online ordering, Wesco has surely evolved. But as they say, nothing changes so much as it stays the same. We’re still here in Scappoose, building fine boots with John Shoemaker’s unwavering commitment to quality. To see a Wesco boot built is still a beautiful thing – 155 carefully finessed steps from start to finish. In the words of our founder, A shoe is no better than the leather it is made of – and all the leather on the market is not worth a’whoop’ where there is no shoemaking skill. These words tell our Wesco story – a simple tale of quality that has endured a serious test of time. For over 25 years now I have worked in the industry, working with a private clientele. Unique items that you can hand down to your children and they will proudly use. My Company RJL Limited will be offering many unique items in the months to come, all made by hand and in limited numbers. So do not hesitate to ask any questions, But remember the clothing and bags we sell are not meant to sit around and look pretty. They are made to wear and wear hard. You want that bag that looks aged and well worn. That is exactly what our bags are meant to do. Who wants a leather jacket that looks new… You want it to show the miles, to have already molded to your body shape and with the scratches and scuffs to show for it. So we may not be for those dainty gentlemen that dont like to wrinkle their trousers….. Imagination, dreams and the desire to get out and see this.
